She has been nominated for 13 Emmy Awards and won an Emmy Award, an Oscar, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. She was the second black woman in the story of the Academy Awards to win an acting Oscar. She is the comedic actress who received recognition for her leading role in the 1985 film The Color Purple.
